When will the PHE end and what is Anthem’s plan to implement the changes that go along with it?

The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) will end on May 11, 2023. Anthem is working closely with stakeholders, including state and federal partners to carefully review policies tied to the PHE and determine ongoing coverage options for items such as vaccines, testing, and telehealth. We will provide additional information in the coming weeks, but note the following coverage will continue after the PHE ends:

  • COVID-19 Vaccines will continue to be reimbursed without cost-sharing when administered by in-network providers and pharmacies.
  • COVID-19 Testing will continue to be reimbursed for in-network providers, but cost-sharing will apply similar to other lab services – exceptions may vary depending on state mandates.
  • Most telehealth flexibilities will remain in place as part of ongoing benefit coverage.

We’re sharing this information with our employer groups today as well.

By providing continuing coverage to these important benefits, Anthem remains committed to ensuring we meet the needs of those we serve.
