Form 1095-B and 1095-C deadlines extended

Anthem is required to file form 1095-B and 1094-B electronically to the IRS.  The deadline to file federal tax forms 1095-B and 1095-C is now March 2, 2022. The IRS permanently extended the original deadline from January 31. Fully insured and self-insured (Administrative Services Only) employers with 50 or more full-time employees are considered Applicable Large Employers (ALE) and required to file form 1095-C along with 1094-C.

In accordance with a state mandate, we will mail forms 1095-B to fully insured members who live in California before January 31.

Anthem will also submit state filings for both District of Columbia and New Jersey.

Vermont does not require a state filing.

Employers will need to submit state filings in Rhode Island. Anthem is not licensed there.

Anthem will send additional forms and reminders of IRS reporting throughout the year, following this approximate timeline:

  • 1095-B and 1094-B forms for Small Group Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) and Anthem Balance Funding (ABF) groups will be posted to EmployerAccess in early February.
  • 1095-B forms to all fully insured members will be mailed through the end of February.
  • Social Security number (SSN) collection: In early spring, Anthem will send letters to members who do not have a social security number on file with us.
  • SSN and name reconciliation: We will send letters to members in late spring if their names, birthdates, or Social Security numbers do not match what is on the IRS taxpayer database.

Please contact your Anthem representative for more information.
