Kentucky’s three largest food banks are teaming up with the Anthem Foundation to fill a growing gap in volunteers and dollars needed to fight food insecurity. We invite you and your clients to join us.
Dare to Care Food Bank; Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland; and God’s Pantry Food Bank estimate they will need about 10,000 volunteer hours combined each month to help sort, pack, and distribute food to families in 100 Kentucky counties. They expect about half that many based on current volunteer rates.
They’ve partnered with the Anthem Foundation to present the Dollars For Doers Challenge to every Kentuckian to fill the volunteer gap and raise needed funds. The Anthem Foundation will match every hour volunteered at any of the three food banks with a $10 donation through December 31, 2021.
This year’s challenge builds off a successful effort last year in Louisville. Dare to Care food bank and the Anthem Foundation spurred a 61 percent increase in volunteer hours and a 38 percent increase in new volunteers.
Volunteers can sign up at any of the food bank centers or mobile food pantries that Feeding America; Kentucky’s Heartland, God’s Pantry; and Dare to Care operate throughout Kentucky and southern Indiana. The Anthem Foundation will automatically match volunteer hours with a $10 donation.
